Greece’s Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kostis Hatzidakis, is traveling to Luxembourg, on Monday, to participate in the meetings of Eurogroup and ECOFIN.
The agenda of the Eurogroup meetings will include discussions on the competitiveness of the Eurozone, the Capital Markets Union, and the digital euro, as well as the preparations for the Eurozone summit scheduled for Oct. 18.
During Tuesday’s ECOFIN meeting, the EU ministers will be updated on the progress of the implementation of the Recovery Fund while the revised national plans of Portugal and Lithuania are expected to be approved.
Discussion will also include the economic impact of the Ukraine war and the European Semester, as well as the coordination of European positions ahead of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ meeting (Oct. 23-24) and the annual International Monetary Fund (IMF) meeting (Oct. 21-26).
What is more, it is expected that Council conclusions regarding the climate financing will be approved ahead of the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), which will take place in Nov.
It is worth noting that recently Hatzidakis stressed the impact of the crisis in the Middle East on European economies, stating: “The Middle East issue has concerned us all for decades with its flare-ups and declines. Last year, there were also concerns about how the escalation that started would affect oil and fuel prices. In the end, there was no significant impact, but that doesn’t mean we are complacent. Quite the opposite. That’s why both the European Union and the Greek government are closely monitoring the situation.”
