Archbishop Elpidophoros of America on Wednesday conveyed the gratitude of the Greek-American community to the Biden administration for its steadfast support of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and its firm stance on vital issues concerning Greece and Cyprus. The expression of appreciation transpired during a meeting between the Archbishop and US Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House.
The meeting took place in the Vice President’s office, a one day ahead of the annual reception honoring Greek Independence Day (March 25) at the White House. Archbishop Elpidophoros was accompanied by California’s Lieutenant Governor, Eleni Kounalakis, who shares a close personal connection with Harris, as both are California Democrats, along with notable figures from the Greek-American community, including Andy Manatos and Mike Manatos.
According to the Archdiocese of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros underscored the significance of the Biden administration’s steadfast support on critical issues concerning the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Greece and Cyprus. He also briefed Vice President Harris on the ongoing initiatives and endeavors of the Greek Orthodox Church in America. Moreover, Elpidophoros extended an official invitation on behalf of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew for Vice President Harris to visit the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople.
