The head of Greece’s air force general staff (HAFGS), Lt. Gen. Dimosthenis Grigoriadis, on Tuesday received a group of top Lockheed Martin Aeronautics executives, headed by Steve Sheely, the multinational’s VP for sustainment strategy & business development.
The latest meeting between the Greek side and Lockheed Martin again focused on the Hellenic Air Force’s ongoing program to upgrade a good portion of the F-16s in its air fleet into the Viper edition, as well as the very high-profile procurement of “stealthy” fifth-generation F-35s.
Greece’s defense ministry leadership has previously cited the purchase of 20 F-35A Lightning II planes, at least in a first phase.
The current month also witnessed the delivery of the 24th Dassault-made Rafale fighter to the Hellenic Air Force. Greece had signed a contract with Paris for 24 of the 4.5-generation French warplanes – all part of a major defense upgrade.
