With hopes of changing the country, main opposition SYRIZA leader Stefanos Kasselakis addressed his party’s Central Committee Saturday.
“We want to change our country and our compatriots’ everyday life and if this remains our target we will succeed,” Kasselakis said.
The leftist leader said that his party is the most independent political group. “We do not owe anything and nobody can silence us. We will remain independent and deeply social,” Kasselakis stated.
The head of SYRIZA spoke about international developments: “The war in Ukraine is ongoing without the prospect of an end, while the massacre in Gaza has resumed after the end of a few days’ ceasefire.”
“We are heading towards a dangerous situation in Europe, where the ongoing structural crisis of the European Union could deepen still more overnight, if the far-right forces manage to play a leading role in the new European Parliament. It is in these times that leftist, progressive and democratic ideas and principles need to prevail,” he underlined.
Kasselakis underscored that “We should, all together, support the need for immediate peace on Europe’s eastern borders and in the Middle East, and demand recognition once again for a Palestinian state alongside Israel, based on the 1967 borders and with east Jerusalem as its capital.”
