The return of the traditional holiday basket was announced by Kostas Skrekas, Minister of Development, following his meeting with representatives from the Union of Supermarkets of Greece (USG) held on Monday, December 4th.
Accompanied by the Secretary-General of Commerce, Sotiris Anagnostopoulos, the Minister met with representatives of the Union of Supermarkets of Greece (USG), led by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Aristotelis Panteliadis.
In this second meeting within a week, it was decided to implement the “Christmas Basket,” which will run from Wednesday, December 13th, until Wednesday, January 3rd. This basket will include six different food categories essential for the festive table.
Specifically, the “Christmas Basket” will contain lamb, goat, turkey, tsoureki (traditional sweet bread), vasilopita (traditional Greek New Year’s cake) and chocolate.
Minister of Development Kostas Skrekas emphasized after the meeting, “Once again, we had a very substantial meeting with the Union of Supermarkets, and together we decided which products will be included in this year’s ‘Christmas Basket,’. It will include essential food categories for every household. During these holy days, we want every household to manage to secure the necessary products for their Christmas table at low prices.”
