Tax Evaders Caught in Weekend Sting Operation of Event Facilities

The country-wide checks were carried out Saturday night by IAPR auditors and found that 61% of facilities were in violation, leading to the temporary closure of nine facilities

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR) launched an overnight sting operation this past weekend targeting event facilities which caught tax evaders “in the act.”

The audits were held simultaneously in the Attica region, Thessaloniki, Larissa, Kozani, Lamia, Alexandroupoli and Patras, and were conducted by 40 inspectors from IAPR in the twighlight hours between Saturday and Sunday.

In total they checked 36 facilities and found that 61% were in violation and temporarily closed 9 facilities.

The facilities they had in sight were event halls that hold events such as baptisms, weddings and holiday parties.

The inspections are connected to IAPR’s 2024 action plan, which was announced last week by its Director Giorgos Pitsilis. The key pillars of the plan are: improving services to citizens and businesses, promoting innovation and digitization and upgrading IAPR.
