Taxi Strike and Protest in Athens on Proposed Tax Legislation

48hr taxi strike in Athens on Tuesday and Wednesday with a protest to be held in front of the Parliament today at 1:00pm

Strikes and protests will be held throughout Greece this week in protest of the new tax legislation targeting freelancers and the self-employed, which will likely be put to a vote in Parliament later this week.

Taxi drivers in Thessaloniki have initiated work stoppages from Monday until Friday, while taxi drivers in Athens have announced a 48-hour strike for Tuesday and Wednesday. A protest has also been announced for Tuesday at 1:00pm in front of Parliament.

Freelancers have been protesting the proposed tax legislation, saying that the tax free limits are arbitrary and don’t actually target tax evasion at the root of its problem.
