Stores Open Nationwide on Sunday – Retailers Hope for Revenue Boost

The Ministry of Development has ramped up inspections to ensure advertised sales and discounts are genuine

All commercial stores are open nationwide today, Sunday, November 26, in Greece from 11 am until 8 pm, with retailers hopeful to see a double-digit boost in revenues, as consumer sentiment was high on the heels of Black Friday and in anticipation of Cyber Monday.

Product offers are expected to peak on Monday, November 27 (Cyber Monday), shifting commercial activity primarily to digital stores, with electric and electronic goods, as well as tech chains taking the forefront, offering consumers flexible payment solutions, among other benefits.

Hefty discounts akin to those of Black Friday are being offered by major chains in household appliances, cosmetics companies, sports goods, furniture, home goods, clothing, footwear, seasonal items, and supermarkets.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Development has ramped up inspections to ensure advertised sales and discounts are genuine. Minister Kostas Skrekas attended a symposium last Thursday on “Discounts? Offers? Do it Right! Informing Businesses, Protecting Consumers,” emphasizing the importance placed on audit services to ensure that offers and discounts are authentic for the benefit of the consumer. Specifically, regarding Black Friday, he highlighted that price-auditing has occurred for thousands of products in the previous period, cross-referencing of data for the discounts advertised by businesses will take place, and if necessary, fines will be imposed as prescribed.
