Retail Sector: Turnover Skyrockets by 10.3% in Jan. 2024

According to ELSTAT (Hellenic Statistical Authority) the turnover in retail trade recorded a significant increase of 10.3% in January.

Retail turnover in January 2024 for businesses required to keep duplicate books reached 3.32 billion euros, up by 10.3% from January 2023’s 3.01 billion euros but down by 18.4% from December 2023’s 4.07 billion euros, according to ELSTAT.

In 2023, the leading sectors by annual revenue were:
1. Food, beverage, or tobacco stores (26.8%)
2. Motor vehicle fuel sales (11.7%)
3. Motor vehicle and motorcycle sales (11.6%)
4. Pharmaceutical product stores (6.6%)
5. Clothing stores (5.1%)

In January 2024, sectors with the most significant turnover growth compared to January 2023 were:
• Alternative motor vehicle sales surged by 26.8%.
• Watches and jewelry sales in specialized stores increased by 21.5%.

Sectors experiencing the most substantial turnover decline in January 2024 versus January 2023 were:
• Household electrical appliance sales dropped by 18.2%.
• Audiovisual equipment sales declined by 12.8%.
