New building permits in Greece surged in February, reflecting a steady growth in construction activity across the country, according to the country’s statistical authority (ELSTAT).

The total building activity (private and public sector) for February 2024, regarding building permits issued, amounted to 2,744 permits, marking a substantial 77.8% rise in the number of building permits, and a 72.0% increase in volume compared to February 2023.

The number of private building permits issued stood at 2,722, a notable 78.8% rise compared to the same month in 2023. In contrast, the public sector saw 22 building permits issued, contributing to 2.3% of the total construction volume for February 2024.

Annually, from March 2023 to February 2024, the Total Building Activity (Private-Public) based on issued building permits across the country amounted to 28,442 permits. Compared to the previous period from March 2022 to February 2023, this represents a 12.8% increase in the number of building permits, a 17.7% increase in surface area, and a 20.5% increase in volume.

During the same period, from March 2023 to February 2024, Private Building Activity across the country showed a 13.0% increase in the number of issued building permits, a 17.7% increase in surface area, and a 20.6% increase in volume compared to the corresponding period from March 2022 to February 2023. The share of Public Building Activity in the total construction volume for the same period is 2.3%.
