The inaugural general assembly of the newly formed Association of Speedboat and Cruise Owners (SETAK) this week elected a new board of directors. The general assembly decided to elect Antonios Agapitos as the association’s first president and Nikolaos Kavallieros as its first general secretary. The latter will also serve as SETAK’s general director during the board’s freshman tenure.
Nevertheless, the development also earned a negative reaction by the powerful Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO), the union representing lower ranking seamen in Greece’s large coastal shipping sector. In an announcement, PNO charged that it does not recognize the new association and regards the Greek Shipowners Association for Passenger Ships (SEEN) as its only legal interlocutor in signing collective bargaining agreements and resolving issues affecting the entire ferryboat and tourist vessel sector in Greek waters.
