Mytilineos Energy & Metals announced that it has received a license from the Ghana Integrated Aluminum Development Corporation (GIADEC) to explore and subsequently extract bauxite deposits in the Ninayhin – Mpasaaso region.
The area is expected to have around 300 million tons of bauxite and expects to reach an annual production capacity of 10 million tons of bauxite, equal to $500 million in turnover.
The global industrial and energy company also said it will launch a feasibility study for the construction of an alumina production, that it hopes will have an annual production capacity of 1.5 million tons.
Mytilineos is the only vertically integrated company producing bauxite, alumina and cast aluminum in the EU, according to the announcement. The company also highlights that bauxite is a strategic raw material that is crucial for the green transition.
