Passenger traffic at the Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” (AIA) reached 1.6 million in February; an 18.4% increase compared to the corresponding month of 2023, according to the AIA figures.
Domestic and international passenger traffic witnessed notable increases, surpassing the 2023 levels by 11.8% and 21.5%, respectively.
For the first two months of 2024, the number of passengers amounted to 3.2 million, marking a 14.4% increase, with the combined Jan-Feb. traffic reaching 2,230,052 million passengers for international flights, compared to 1,906,575 during the same period last year, a remarkable 17% increase.
Similarly, domestic traffic stood at 979,494 passengers compared to 898,962 last year, recording a 9.0% rise.
The Athens International Airport served a total of 28.17 million passengers, exceeding the 2022 levels by 24% and 10.2% higher than the 2019 levels, indicating a faster recovery rate compared to the average of European airports.
The AIA management expects a more modest increase in passenger traffic for 2024, compared to 2023, as travel restrictions were still in place during the first months of 2022.
