Freelancers and self-employed individuals in Greece are obliged to connect their business accounts to the instant payment system IRIS-currently in use in Greece-for free by Monday, Sept. 2, provide they meet this deadline.

Linking to the service via mobile phone or PC, a process that lasts a few minutes and requires minimal clicks, professionals receive instant payments from their customers and clients. This process allows them to benefit from reduced to zero commission fees.

It is worth noting that professionals can use one of their existing accounts, without being obliged to open a new one, as long as it is registered with the Professional Accounts Registry of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) to sign up for the service.

The following steps are required for professionals to activate the service via their bank’s online banking platform:

Select the IRIS Payments service from the Services section.

Provide their Tax Identification Number (TIN) as an identifier for clients.

Connect their business account where funds received through IRIS Payments will be credited.

Upon completing the registration, a unique QR code for the business is generated, which can be shared with clients for scanning and making payments.

A total of 12 banks now providing this service include: Alpha Bank, National Bank, Eurobank, Piraeus bank, Cooperative Bank of Epirus, Viva.com, Optima Bank, Attica Bank, Pancretan Cooperative Bank, Cooperative Bank of Thessaly, Cooperative Bank of Karditsa, and Cooperative Bank of Chania.
