Inflation in Greece in June stood at 2.3%, up by 2.3% compared to June of 2023, according to preliminary figures released by the country’s statistical authority ELSTAT.

The CPI in June 2024 compared with May 2024, increased by 0.5%. In June 2023, the monthly rate of change of the CPI was 0.6%.

The average CPI for the twelve months from July 2023 to June 2024, compared with the corresponding index for the period July 2022 to June 2023 increased by 2.8%. The annual rate of change of the average CPI between the twelve months July 2022 to June 2023 in comparison to the period July 2021 to June 2022 was 7.0%

The 0.5% increase in the Inflation in Greece in June 2024, compared with the corresponding index in May 2024 is, mainly, due to changes in the groups of goods and services:

  • Food and non-alcoholic beverages (+1.1%) due to increases in cheese, fresh fruit, frozen vegetables, chocolates-chocolate products;
  • +0.4% in Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, due to the increase, mainly, in the prices of alcoholic beverages;
  • +1.6% in Clothing and footwear, due to the increase in the prices of clothing and footwear:
  • and, 0.1% in Housing, due to the increase, mainly, in the prices of rentals for dwellings, and natural gas. This increase was
    partly offset by the decrease, mainly, in the price of electricity.

The 2.3% increase in the Overall CPI in June 2024, compared with the corresponding index in June 2023 is, mainly, due to changes in the groups of goods and services:

  • a rise of 2.1% in Food and non-alcoholic beverages, due to the increase, mainly, in the prices of meat, fresh fish, olive oil, frozen vegetables, sugar-chocolates-sweets-ice creams;
  • 1.8% in Alcoholic beverages and tobacco, due to the increase, mainly, in the prices of alcoholic beverages;
  • 4.6% in Clothing and footwear, due to the increase in the prices of clothing and footwear;
  • 2.2% in Health, due to the increase, mainly, in the prices of pharmaceutical products, medical-dental and paramedical services, and hospital care;
  • 3.2% in Transport, due to the increase, mainly, in the prices of new motor cars, spare parts and accessories for motor cars, fuels and lubricants, maintenance and repair of motor cars-motor cycles, tickets for passenger transport by air
