Two Greek Coffees in Top 10 ‘Taste Atlas’ List

The latest Taste Atlas list confirms this passion with these two “addictive” coffee renditions as both the Espresso Freddo and Freddo Cappuccino were included in the site’s top 10 list, the former taking 3rd spot and the latter 4th, while the traditional Frappe comes in strong in 9th place.


EU Birth Rates Decline in 2022

The decrease marks the 14th year in a row of a declining trend in the EU since 2008 when 4.68 million children were born. In Greece, birth rates decreased by a further 10.3% in 2022, totaling 76,541 (39,558 boys and 36,983 girls), compared to 85,346 (43,998 boys and 41,348 girls) in 2021.


ECB Decides to Keep Interest Rates Unchanged

This is the fourth consecutive time Europe’s central bank has kept the interest rates unchanged after 10 increases in a row between July 2022 and September 2023. In particular, the interest rates that will remain unchanged concern the main refinancing operations, the marginal lending facility, and the deposit facility at 4.50%, 4.75% and 4.00% respectively.


The guest speaker was Distinguished Prof. Brian D. Joseph, The Kenneth E. Naylor Professor of South Slavic Languages and Linguistics at Ohio State University, himself a CYA alumnus in the 1971-72 period. Dr. Mark Janse, emeritus research professor in ancient and Asia Minor Greek at Ghent University, participated in the event.


Greece to Launch Discount ‘Basket’ for Lenten ‘Sarakosti’ Period

Development Minister Kostas Skrekas said the measure is an extension to the similar “household basket” action which applies through to the end of June and includes three new food item categories which concern the Orthodox Greek fasting period.


Athens Wins WTA 2024 ‘Europe’s Leading City Break Destination’ Award

The city of Athens claimed top accolades for the award of “Europe’s Leading City Break Destination” in 2024, as announced during the prestigious 31st Annual World Travel Awards (WTA) ceremony that took place in the German capital of Berlin.
