The resumption of freight services two weeks ago relieved a three-month backlog, but the damage incurred to rail transport reliability is enormous. The twin disasters interrupted rail service on the main north-south axis, with alternate routes seeing container traffic off-loaded at ports in Italy, Slovenia and Croatia, instead of Piraeus.

It is expected to take place in September, bringing together 4.5 and 5th generation squadrons of warplanes, including the stealthy F-35, the Rafale and the F-16 Vipers. The Hellenic Air Force already operates the last two types of aircraft.

The Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management, scientists and executives from the companies involved have said that results are encouraging, with potential deposits possibly large enough to eventually export to Europe.
