The Greek Ministry of Finance is disbursing the first instalment of the heating allowance program to eligible applicants, on Monday Dec. 23. The amount of the allowance ranges from 100 to 800 euros, with additional increments depending on the weather conditions of the country’s region.

According to the program in areas that experience extreme weather conditions or particularly low temperatures, the allowance can reach up to 1,200 euros for a household.

According to the schedule, returning beneficiaries will receive an advance payment of up to 60% of last year’s allowance by Dec. 23, 2024, if they use oil or other fuels, and 100% of last year’s allowance if they use electricity. However, this cannot exceed 60% of this year’s total amount.

New eligible applicants will receive 50% of the heating allowance, with a minimum amount of 80 euros.

Subsequent payments will be made on the following dates:
• By May 30, 2025, for purchases related to consumption from Oct. 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, provided invoices are issued by April 15, 2025, and the required details are submitted by April 30, 2025.

• By July 30, 2025, for natural gas purchases related to consumption from Oct. 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, provided invoices are issued by June 30, 2025, and the required details are submitted by July 15, 2025.

The heating allowance is granted to eligible households provided applicants have made purchases between Oct. 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025, while specifically for heating oil from Oct. 15, 2024.

Firewood and biomass (pellets) purchases qualify for the allowance provided they were made between June 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025.
