The Greek unemployment rate in the second quarter of 2024 fell below 10% in the second quarter of 2024, according to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
The number of employed persons rose by 3.7%, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) based on the results of the Labor Force Survey.
More specifically, during the second quarter of 2024:
▪ The number of persons employed amounted to σε 4,327,825, recording an increase of 3.7% compared to the previous quarter and an increase of 2.2% compared to the same quarter of the previous year (Tables 1, 2).
▪ The number of unemployed persons amounted to 467,619, recording a decrease of 18.6% compared to the previous quarter and a decrease of 12.3% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The unemployment rate for the second quarter of 2024 was 9.8%. The unemployment rate was 12.1% in the previous quarter (2024 Q1) and 11.2% in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
▪ The number of persons outside the labor force, i.e., those who are neither working nor looking for a job, amounted to 4,225,028. In particular, persons outside the labor force under the age of 75, amounted to 2,994,624. Their share decreased by 1.8% compared with the previous quarter and by 1.5% compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
The highest Greek unemployment rates are observed among women, persons aged up to 24 years, in the Region of Western Macedonia, and persons who have completed less than primary education.
The highest percentage of the labor force is observed among men, persons aged 30-44 years, in the Region of the Southern Aegean, persons who have completed post-secondary education, and persons of foreign citizenship.
