ELSTAT: August Turnover Up 2.9% in Greece

The largest decrease was recorded in the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sectors, at 4.4%. Retail trade also showed a decrease of 0.7%

Businesses operating in the mining and quarrying sectors in Greece recorded a notable increase in turnover in August 2024 at 26%, compared to August 2023, accounting for the largest percentage of a 2.9% uptick, according to the Greek statistical authority, ELSTAT.

In particular, based on available data for enterprises keeping double-entry accounts, the turnover amounted to €32,208,347 million in August 2024, compared to August 2023, when the turnover stood at €31,307,686.

In contrast, the smallest increase was recorded in businesses in the arts, entertainment, and recreation sectors, at 1.1%, while the largest decrease was recorded in the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sectors, at 4.4%. Retail trade also showed a decrease of 0.7%.

The Greek statistical authority warns that despite the marginal drop in retail turnover during July, Greeks are cutting down on expenses to cope with Greece’s immense cost of living.

The overall turnover index in retail trade in July 2024, compared to the same index in July 2023, showed a decrease of 0.2%, and compared to June 2024, it showed a decrease of 1.8%.

At the same time, the overall volume index in July 2024, compared to July 2023, decreased by 2.8% but showed an increase of 1.2% compared to June 2024.
