Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with a delegation of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CCI), as part of his contacts during his official visit to India, on Thursday.
In his presentation, Mitsotakis underlined the potential of the Greek economy highlighting the country’s return to a stable growth path, while briefing the attendees on the significant investment opportunities opening up, especially in the infrastructure and logistics centers, energy, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals sectors.
The Greek Premier also spoke about the initiatives Greece has taken for energy source diversification and connectivity, the Vertical Gas Corridor, an ambitious joint project by Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary that aims to enable bidirectional gas flow between participating nations.
Moreover, Mitsotakis made special reference to the significance of the IMEC project, the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor and the role Greece can play as a hub of this important trade route, as well as a trusted intermediary between the countries in the region.
The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is a project that aims to reshape the trading route between Europe, West Asia, and the Indian subcontinent.
The project will involve a sea route connecting western India with Saudi Arabia, followed by a rail link to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and possibly Jordan or Israel, before taking a ship to Europe.
The meeting was attended, from the Greek side, by the Ambassador of Greece to New Delhi, Aliki Koutsomitopoulou, the Head of the Prime Minister’s Economic Office, Alexis Patelis, and the Special Consultant for International Policy and Public Diplomacy of the Prime Minister, Aristotelia Peloni.
From the Indian side, Ramachandran Dinesh (CII President, Chairman, TVS Supply Chain Solutions Limited), Chandrajit Banerjee (CII Director General), Babasaheb Neelkanth Kalyani (Chairman and Managing Director, Bharat Forge Limited), Srinivas Bommidala (Chairman, International Airports GMR Group), Sunjay Kapur (chairman of Sona Comstar and chair of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Europe Committee), Vikram Shroff (Vice-Chairman and Co-CEO, UPL Ltd.), Uday Khemka (Vice Chairman, SUN Group) participated.
During the meeting, ways to reinforce bilateral economic cooperation were discussed, while particular emphasis was placed on planning for the establishment of a Greek-Indian Chamber of Commerce. To this end, it was agreed that a business mission of the Indian Industry Confederation would visit Athens in the near future.
Subsequently, the Prime Minister was given a tour of the New Delhi airport, managed by GMR, which is building the new airport in Kasteli.
