The Greek spirits and distillers’ sector continues to show great resilience in the face of market challenges, as the exports of Greek alcoholic beverages recorded an uptick in the 1st half of 2024.
The Greek sector outpaced its European competition—both in quantity and monetary value—with the latter experiencing a dip in monetary value of -7.5% over the same period.
Based on Eurostat data analyzed by the Greek Distillers’ Association, the Greek sector posted a rise in exports by +12.5% in value (€6.3 million in absolute terms) and +0.4% in volume (0.7 million kg) compared to the same period in 2023.
EU27 countries made up the lion’s share of Greek exports, accounting for approximately 80% in both value and quantity.
In the first half of 2024, EU-27 countries absorbed 77.8% of the export value (€43.8 million) and 78.1% of the quantity (14.2 million kg).
The total value of exports of Greek alcoholic beverages in the first half of 2024 increased by +11.4% within the EU-27, while the quantity saw a slight decline of -2.6% compared to the first half of 2023. Regarding the percentage of exports directed to third-country markets, there was a notable increase, with shipments rising by +16.5% in value (€1.8 million) and +12.8% in quantity (0.5 million kg) compared to the same period in 2023.
