According to reports, some of the professions are: taxis, private kiosks, minimarkets, real estate brokers and insurance agencies, theaters, cinemas, singers, concert facilities, music bands, dancers, private universities.

The Greek government will mandate 35 additional professions to accept payments by POS machines at the start of 2024, according to reports on a ministerial decision to be published today.

The list of specific professions, which had been exempt from the requirement until this point, will be released today and the information will also include the implementation timeline for the measure.

Additionally, the decision will include the level of fines to be paid by businesses that do not implement the measure in time. However, there will be an exception for the first two months of the new year, pending the business can provide evidence that they have applied for the POS machine by January 31, 2024 and are awaiting its installation.

Reports state that some of the professions to be included in the list are: taxis, producers, stands at festivals, private kiosks, minimarkets, real estate brokers and insurance agencies, theaters, cinemas, singers, concert facilities, music bands, dancers, private universities and more.

All professions will also be required to accept payments by the IRIS instant payment system.

The measure is one of the elements of the recently voted tax bill that is expected to not only facilitate consumers, but to also increase tax revenue and reduce the informal market. It was hotly contested by several sectors over the past month or so as various unions staged protests against this and other elements of the new tax law.
