Lockheed Martin has delivered the 20th upgraded F-16 to the Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI), as part of the agreed upon program to upgrade Greece’s F-16s to Viper configuration, according to reports at OT.gr.
The collaboration involves the upgrading of a total of 84 F-16s by 2027 and is happening on HAI facilities, under the guidance of Lockheed Martin teams in Greece and also from the United States.
Speaking about the collaboration, Vice President of Lockheed Martin’s Integrated Fighter Group OJ Sanchez said, “Lockheed Martin is proud to partner with HAI in upgrading the F-16s to the advanced Viper configuration as part of our 21st Century Security solutions for the Hellenic Air Force.”
Moreover, Sanchez explains, “These upgrades feature advanced capabilities that enhance Greece’s role in NATO and its interoperability, as well as in peacekeeping and deterrent operations across Europe.”
The report at OT elaborates that 16 more aircraft are expected to be delivered by the end of 2024, and that the collaboration with Lockheed Martin has brought in over $1 billion in economic benefits to the Greek defense industry and Hellenic Air Force.
Moreover, the upgrades improve interoperability within NATO and ups security and system improvements, like APG-83 radar and the Automatic Ground Collision Avoidance System (AGCAS).
