ELSTAT: Tourist Arrivals and Overnight Stays in January Fall 1.3%

Overnight stays by foreigners nudged higher, year-on-year, but arrivals and overnight stays of Greek nationals were lower

The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) said on Thursday that arrivals and overnight stays at tourist accommodations in January 2024 fell 1.3% compared to January of 2023, on lower domestic traffic.

The data considers hotels, camping, and short-stay collective accommodation, which is also known as ‘rooms-to-let’.

The total arrivals came in at 716,808 and overnight stays amounted to 716,808, while the average overnight stay in January 2024 was 2.3 days.

Notably, foreign arrivals were the same compared to the same period last year, while their overnights nudged up 0.2% compared to January 2023.

This year’s decrease in accommodation traffic was weighed down by nationals, where arrivals dropped 1.9% and overnight stays were 2.1% lower.
