Approximately 1 in 5 Greek businesses receive online orders, according to data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT), with a turnover estimated at 25 billion euros.
The survey findings revealed that out of the 41,848 businesses with internet access, 25,020 (59.8%) use at least one of the social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Yammer, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) for various purposes, indicating how significant social media presence has become for businesses.
This year, out of a total of 42,451 businesses employing 10 people or more, 41,848 businesses had internet access – both fixed and mobile connections – for professional purposes, a rate of 98.6%, as highlighted by ELSTAT in its announcement.
The annual turnover from these orders amounted to 25.0 billion euros, making up 7.1% of the total business revenue. Similarly, in 2022, in a total of 39,460 businesses with a total business turnover of 295.9 billion euros, 7,472 received orders through a website or specialized applications or via messages such as EDI, at a rate of 18.9%. The business revenue from these orders amounted to 20.5 billion euros, constituting 6.9% of the total business turnover.
The term “electronic commerce” refers to the sale or purchase of goods or services conducted through computer networks with methods designed exclusively for order transmission or receipt. Payment and delivery of goods or services do not necessarily occur electronically. Orders received via phone, fax, and typed email messages are not considered electronic commerce.
