The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) reported that the Overall Turnover Index in Industry for May 2024 increased by 4.6% compared to May 2023.
This contrasts with a 12.5% decrease observed in May 2023 compared to May 2022. However, compared to April 2024, the index decreased by 5.7%.
Over the 12-month period from June 2023 to May 2024, the average Overall Turnover Index in Industry decreased by 2.9% compared to the same period from June 2022 to May 2023. Previously, this index had increased by 16.8% from June 2021 to May 2022.
The largest year-over-year increases in May 2024 were seen in the mining and quarrying sector (8%) and manufacturing (4.6%), driven by sectors such as coke and refined petroleum products, tobacco products, and beverages.
On a monthly basis, the mining and quarrying index rose by 13.9%, and the manufacturing index by 5.9%.
Within manufacturing, significant annual increases were recorded in coke and refined petroleum products (34.2%), tobacco products (15.5%), other equipment manufacturing (10.7%), and beverages (9.1%).
In contrast, the largest decreases were seen in the leather industry (-17%), motor vehicle manufacturing (-19.4%), and the wood industry (-19.8%).
