Greece saw an overall increase in business turnover within the accommodation and food service sectors, in July of 2024 according to the latest data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
For accommodation businesses (NACE 55), which are required to maintain double-entry bookkeeping and for which monthly data is available, turnover reached 1.798 billion euros in this July. This represents a 5.2% increase compared to the same month of 2023, when turnover was 1.709 billion euros.
In the food service sector (NACE 56), which also requires double-entry bookkeeping and has monthly data available, business turnover in July 2024 was 353.7 million euros, marking a 6.5% increase from the 331.9 million euros recorded in July of last year.
Overall, the combined turnover for both sectors in July 2024 totaled 2.152 billion euros, reflecting a 5.4% increase from the previous year’s 2.041 billion euros.
Regionally, the largest business turnover increase in July of the current year compared to July 2023 was observed in the Rhodes Regional Unit, with a 16.8% rise. Conversely, the smallest increase was in the Attica Region, which saw a 2.6% rise.
However, some areas experienced a decline. Both the islands of Mykonos and Santorini saw decreases in their accommodation and food service revenues.
Mykonos reported a 7.8% drop, with revenues falling to 95.7 million euros, while Santorini experienced a 6.7% decrease, with July revenues at 68.6 million euros compared to the previous year.
Finally, Syros also saw a decrease in revenue, down 12.2% to 1.6 million euros.
