ELSTAT, the Hellenic Statistical Authority, reported that Greek businesses recorded a 12.7% increase last July, reaching €37.95 billion, compared to July 2023, when it stood at €33.67 billion.
The data concerns companies maintaining double-entry bookkeeping, and for which monthly data are available.
The most substantial uptick compared to July 2023 was posted by enterprises in the “Electricity, Natural Gas, Steam, and Air Conditioning Supply” sector, with a 35.6% increase, while the smallest increase was seen in the “Human Health and Social Work Activities” sector, at just 1%.
ELSTAT: Retail Sector Performance
It should also be noted that retail trade turnover grew at a positive rate in the second quarter of 2024, according to recent ELSTAT data.
Specifically, for all retail businesses, turnover in the second quarter of 2024 amounted to €18.11 billion, a 4.3% increase compared to the second quarter of 2023, when it reached €17.37 billion, and a 15.4% increase compared to the first quarter of 2024, when it stood at €15.69 billion, according to ELSTAT data.
For retail businesses, excluding the vehicle, food, and fuel sectors, turnover in the second quarter of 2024 reached €6.57 billion, showing a 4.1% increase compared to the second quarter of 2023, when it stood at €6.31 billion, and a 22.8% increase compared to the first quarter of 2024, when it reached €5.35 billion.
