The central government posted a primary balance surplus of 2.9 billion euros in January-June 2024 period, up from 1.519 billion euros in H1 2023, the Bank of Greece (BoG) announced on Wednesday.

Specifically, Greece’s central bank said the central government cash balance posted a deficit of 1.558 billion euros in the January-June 2024 period, compared to a deficit of 2.906 billion euros in the corresponding period of 2023.

Ordinary budget revenues reached 29.999 billion euros, compared to 27.838 billion euros collected in the corresponding period of 2023. Ordinary budget expenditures reached 29.117 billion euros, slightly down from 29.738 billion euros recorded in January-June 2023 period, the central bank announced.

Overall, the primary balance figure was 1.7 billion euros higher than the foreseen target.
