Athens’ Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport this week reported a new yearly passenger record, with the figure of 28.17 million recorded in 2023 exceeding all previous records. The 2023 figure was up by 24% compared with the previous year and up by 10.2% compared to pre-pandemic 2019.

Domestic passenger traffic exceeded 2022’s figure by 18.9%; 26.4% higher for international passenger traffic. In absolute terms, 19.39 passengers arrived from or left for international destinations, with domestic traffic at 8.78 million.

For December 2023, passenger traffic increased by 17.1 percent compared to the corresponding month of 2022, or 1.86 million in numbers. Compared to 2019, domestic and international traffic was up by 20.8% and 10.7%, respectively.

At the same time, Greece’s tourism potential for the coming year appears very promising, with analysts pointing at the prospect of a new record in terms of arrivals and travel revenues.

The previous year, 2023, witness travel revenues exceeding 20.5 billion euros and more than 33 million arrivals.
