Passenger traffic at Athens International Airport (AIA) reached 3.01 million in October of 2024, marking a 10% increase compared to traffic levels of the same month in 2023, according to an announcement from AIA.
Breaking down the data, AIA reported to the Athens Stock Exchange that both domestic and international passenger numbers saw significant growth, up by 7.4% and 11.1% respectively compared to last year’s figures for October.
For the year so far, total airport traffic from January to October 2024 has reached 27.57 million passengers, reflecting a year-over-year rise of 12.9%. Domestic passenger traffic increased by 7.3%, while international traffic experienced an uptick of 15.5%.
Flight numbers at AIA also rose, with 231,859 flights recorded in the first ten months of 2024—a rise of 11% compared to the same period in 2023. Both domestic and international flights contributed to this increase, climbing by 5.2% and 15.6%, respectively, over last year’s figures.
On an annual scale, Athens International Airport experienced a record year in 2023, with overall traffic reaching 28.17 million passengers, exceeding 2022 levels by 24% and 10.2% higher than 2019 levels.
This indicates that the country’s major airport is showing a faster recovery rate compared to the average of European airports.
