This year’s Eurovision competition representative for Greece has been narrowed down to 12 finalists.
Greece has participated in the Eurovision competition 44 times since its first appearance in 1974, having placed among the top quartile 6 times in the last four and a half decades. This year’s competition will mark the 20th anniversary of Helena Paparizou’s iconic performance My Number One, which earned Greece the winning title in 2005 and continues to be an international fan favorite, according to Eurovision.
Evidence of its universal adoration was its appearance as one of the three songs included in the sing-along interval act at Eurovision 2024.
For the first time since 2017, the Greek broadcasting network ERT will be airing the national pre-selection competition to choose this year’s Greek entry, Ethnikós Telikós, from Basel on Thursday, January 30. The national competition broadcast will rely on live viewers to make up 50% of the vote. The other 50% will come from two juries—one Greek and one international.
On January 10, ERT revealed the 12 artists who will be competing to represent Greece in the spring:
Andy Nicolas – Lost My Way
BARBZ – Sirens
Evangelia – Vále
Nafsika Gavrilaki – Unhurt Me
Dinamiss – Odyssey
Thanos Lambrou – Free Love
RIKKI – Elevator (Up and Down)
Konstantinos Christoforou & Kostas Karafotis – Parádeisos
Georgina Kalais & John Vlaseros – High Road
Xannova Xan – Play It!
Klavdia – Asteromáta
Kostas Ageris – Gi Mou
At last year’s song competition in Malmö, highlighting Greece’s 41st Grand Final appearance, Marina Satti’s song ZARI finished in 11th place with the catchy chorus
“Τα, τα, τα, τα, τα, τα, Πάμε put your hands up!”
ERT has released all of the pre-selection contestants’ songs on their YouTube channel, which can also be accessed from the Eurovision website.
