The number of visitors to Greece’s museums rose by 22.4% in February compared to the same month in 2023, according to the latest data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
ELSTAT’s data reveals a 29.7% year-on-year increase in the number of free admission visitors and an 11.1% rise in revenues in February.
Data for the country’s archaeological sites reveals a 44.1% rise in visitors in February compared to the year-ago period, a 59.5% increase in free admissions, and a 33% increase in revenues.
In the first two months of 2024, Greek museum visitor numbers rose by 11.8%, free admissions by 16%, and revenues by 7.9%.
In the same two-month period, the number of visitors to Greece’s archaeological sites increased by 34.2%. Free admission visitors increased by 56.8% and revenues by 23.9%.
The rise in museum and archaeological site visits is the result of increasing international tourist arrivals. Greece welcomed some 30 million travelers in 2023 with the figure set to reach 35 million this year.
