The Hellenic American Union (HAU) Movie Club, in collaboration with Mooviereel, proudly honors the legendary American actress, Bette Davis, with a special screening of Paul Heinreid’s classic film “Dead Ringer” at the HAU’s venue today, April 3, at 7:15p.m.
This exclusive screening, featuring Greek subtitles, offers free admission with seating allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
In the Warner Bros psychological thriller, Bette Davis delivers a captivating performance in a dual role as twin sisters Edith, a hardworking bar owner, and Margaret, a wealthy socialite. As tensions escalate between the estranged sisters, Edith impulsively murders her sister Margaret and assumes her identity.
“Dead Ringer” is a masterpiece of the “Grand Guignol” genre, renowned for its focus on “naturalistic horror”, with Bette Davis hailed as the reigning queen of this captivating style, particularly following her Oscar-nominated role in the 1962 film “What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?”.
Adapted from the gripping short story “La Otra” by Rian James, and expertly brought to life on the silver screen by Albert Beich and Oscar Millard, “Dead Ringer” marks a cinematic milestone as the second film to showcase Bette Davis in a dual role, following her memorable performance in the 1946 production “A Stolen Life”.
