“The Bird Experience”
The Bird Experience is a European community arts program involving five independent dance groups from five countries, Denmark, Hungary, Greece, Sweden and Spain. The program primarily consists of educational workshops for the community and culminates in four performances taking place simultaneously across the participating European cities. Through artistic activities, the program delves into Europe’s challenging reality, addressing the concept of grief as experienced through war, migration, and climate crisis.
Iris Kayan and her creative team collaborated with Melissa Network, an organization supporting migrant women facilitating empowerment and active participation in society, to present “The Bird Experience” dance performance. Eleven women use movement, voice and the symbol of a black bird making room for the feeling of grief sharing their personal stories, memories and emotions to create a dynamic collage of images.
The performances offer free admission and will be presented in Athens’ Roes Theater, this Saturday, March 9, at 9 pm and on Sunday, March 10, at 12pm.
“Women Ceramic Artists of Greece”
Mon Coin studio, a haven for Modern Greek ceramics, and its founder, Eleonore Trenado Finetis host the grand exhibition Women Ceramic Artists of Greece. From antiquity to the present day Greek women ceramists have often worked beneath the radar, creating pieces that go beyond expected utilitarian items, showcasing high artistic value. Aiming to blend timeless ceramic tradition with the dynamism of contemporary creation the exhibition presents the artworks of 140 Greek female artists in articulate sections. The first section “Sculpture and Decorative Sculptural Ceramics”, commenced on March 8 with its first chapter, “Timeless Ceramic Sculpture”, and will last until March 18. The exhibition and its upcoming chapters offer free admission and can be visited Monday-Saturday between 10 am-6 pm.
“Neighborhood Guilt” Exhibition, Technopolis
On the occasion of “International Women’s Day”, the Municipality of Athens is organizing a series of events at the “Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens” to strengthen the female voice and deal with the alarmingly increasing phenomenon of gender-based violence.
Visual artist Georgia Lale presents her three-day visual exhibition entitled “Neighborhood Guilt” open to the public from March 8 to March 10. With her exhibition, Lale, who permanently resides in New York, commemorates victims of femicide and honors people who experience domestic violence. The exhibition includes, among other installations Lale’s new work “Flag”, made especially for this year’s International Women’s Day.
The exhibition has a symbolic cost of 2 euros and all costs will be donated to the NGO Diotima specializing in gender issues and equality.
KINO Athens International Independent Film Festival
Cinema enthusiasts can still enjoy some of the 80 independent films screened during the KINO Athens International Independent Film Festival which began on March 1 and ends this Sunday, March 10. The festival offers a vibrant selection of features and short films from around the world, designed to provoke and challenge viewers while promoting independent filmmaking and inspiring societal transformation through cinematic art. The festival’s program includes workshops, DJ sets, and masterclasses, promoting KINO Athens’ mission to foster dialogue, encourage learning, and cultivate cinema-based communities. All films are screened with English subtitles and offer free admission.
