The Technopolis City of Athens is set to welcome “The Roots of Gazi” for the first time, a unique event organized by the RIZES group in collaboration with the Industrial Gas Museum. This festival will offer a rich program featuring musical, theatrical, and visual art performances inspired by the history of the old gas plant.
By bringing to life the significance of the site as a pivotal part of Athens’ past, the event also promises an interactive and immersive experience for attendees.
Drawing inspiration from the elements of the site—fire, water, coal, and light—as well as the memories preserved through time, four contemporary artists will create works that interact with the architecture and history of the former gasworks. Landmark locations such as the Furnaces, the Gasometer, and its Observatory will be transformed into living canvases of art and history.
Meanwhile, in the courtyard of the Machine Shop, visitors will be treated to storytelling sessions, polyphonic singing, and a concert featuring melodies inspired by collective memory and folk tradition.

The evening will conclude with a traditional island-style procession, reviving a ceremony once held by the factory workers to honor their retired colleagues.
