Stefania Strouza’s “Primary Tide” exhibition brings a “primary, cosmogenic, and captivating tide of materials, meanings, signifiers, and experiences” to the MOMus-Alex Mylona Museum from September 12 to November 3.
Strouza, winner of the Art Athina Award for Upcoming Artist 2023, showcases a retrospective spanning the last decade of her work. The exhibition features in situ installations and sculptural compositions that merge natural and synthetic materials.
Her artistic practice draws inspiration from geography, culture, art, history, mythology, science, and philosophy. Central to her work is the altered relationship between humanity and nature, forming the foundation of her interdisciplinary, theoretical approach.
The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual catalog, supported by Art Athina, and is part of MOMus-Alex Mylona Museum’s ongoing tribute series titled Four Women Artists – Four Attitudes. The series, curated by MOMus curator Domna Gounari, highlights female artists and curators.
Art Athina Award for Upcoming Artist
The Art Athina Award for Upcoming Artist is designed to support local artists under 45 years old who live and work in Greece. Artists are eligible to participate upon nomination by their representing gallery, which must have hosted at least one solo exhibition of the artist’s work.
The award will be presented at a special event during the Art Athina International Contemporary Art Fair, which this year runs from September 19 to 23 at the Zappeion Mansion. Art Athina 2024 event will feature 71 galleries from Greece and ten other European countries.

As part of Art Athina 2024, Stefania Strouza will give a talk titled “Primary Tide: Stefania Strouza’s Dynamic Practice” on Friday, September 20, at 5:30 PM in the Zappeion Garden.
