President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou visited Rethimnon, in Crete Island Saturday, for the great feast of the Epiphany (Theophany).

In statements to reporters attending the ceremony Sakellaropoulou said “Today, the celebration of the Baptism of Christ, eternally expresses the need for the spiritual rebirth of man, the path to the light of truth and solidarity, I feel great joy to be on this festive day near our islanders, in the  historic city of Crete, Rethymnon, the cradle and crossroad of most Mediterranean civilizations,”

“I wish everyone a happy new year and enlightenment,” she noted.
