Beginning (2020)


Georgian director Dea Kulumbegashvili, recently honored with the Special Jury Award at the 81st Venice International Film Festival for her latest film April, now sees her 2020 award-winning film Beginning debut in Greek cinemas.

Set in a remote Georgian village, the story revolves around a secluded community of Jehovah’s Witnesses under relentless attack from fervent Orthodox Christians. Kulumbegashvili’s focus is on Yana, the wife of the community leader—a modern, cultured, and resilient woman forced to endure oppressive medieval conditions. Yana’s quiet resistance and inner strength anchor this gripping narrative.

Parthenope (2024)


The mythical siren Parthenope, whose body washed ashore in Italy and lent her name to Naples, bears only a loose connection to Paolo Sorrentino’s latest film Parthenope. Here, the titular character is a woman of extraordinary beauty, almost as if she embodies the spirit of the ancient myth. Through this character, Sorrentino, a true Neapolitan, pays tribute to his hometown, telling a story filled with striking beauty, melancholy, and sorrow. Spanning from the 1950s to the present day, the film chronicles Parthenope’s life alongside the evolution of the city itself.

Emilia Perez (2024)
