Hellenic American Union Celebrates Halloween with a Screening of ‘Young Frankenstein’

As a festive touch, attendees are encouraged to dress as classic Universal monsters, adding to the atmosphere with streamers during the opening and closing credits

This Halloween, fans of the horror-comedy genre are invited to a special screening of Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. The event is hosted by the Hellenic American Union’s HAU Movie Club in collaboration with Mooviereel and promises to kick off the season with laughs and classic frights. Admission is free, and Greek subtitles will be provided for this 1974 cult favorite.

Young Frankenstein, written by Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder, stands as a beloved parody of horror cinema. Drawing inspiration from Mary Shelley’s gothic novel Frankenstein and Universal Pictures’ first three Frankenstein films, the film presents a comedic twist on the story of Dr. Frankenstein’s grandson (played by Wilder) who embarks on his own experiment in resurrecting the dead in Transylvania. The movie received two Academy Award nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Sound.

As a festive touch, attendees are encouraged to dress as classic Universal monsters, adding to the atmosphere with streamers during the opening and closing credits.
