The Los Angeles Greek Film Festival (LAGFF) kicked off its highly anticipated 2024 on Saturday showing with a red carpet celebration at the Harmony Gold Theatre. Several hundred guests gathered to witness the opening night screening of the award-winning film “ANIMAL,” written and directed by Sofia Exarchou.

The LAGFF has screened over 520 films and hosted over 500 filmmakers in its 17-year existence, aiming to support Hellenic films.

Following the screening, the LAGFF director Aristotle Katopodis moderated a captivating Q&A session with Exarchou and the film’s star, Flomaria Papadaki.

The LAGFF showcased 80+ films (over 9 days in theaters and one week online), including feature films, shorts, documentaries, animation films, and retrospectives, all highlighting the depth of the Greek film industry today.

“ANIMAL” was honored with the 2023 Golden Alexander award, the ultimate prize handed out at Thessaloniki’s International Film Festival.
