Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things this week secured seven Golden Globe Awards nominations, with the Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association’s (HFCA) annual awards ceremony set for Jan. 7.
Having already won the prestigious Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival last September, Poor Things has now been nominated for Best Screenplay (Tony McNamara), Best Director (Yorgos Lanthimos), Best Performance by Male Actor in a Supporting Role (Willem Dafoe and Mark Ruffalo), Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and finally, Best Original Score – Motion Picture (Jerskin Fendrix).
Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster Barbie picked up nine nominations, making it the second most-nominated film in the 81-year history of the show, according to Variety. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer follows, with eight nominations, while Martin Scorsese’s Killer of the Flower Moon also picked up seven nominations.
All four directors – Gerwig, Lanthimos, Nolan and the legendary Scorsese – are nominated for the Best Director – Motion Picture Award category.
The now high-flying Greek director’s much-anticipated film is scheduled to premiere in Greece next month.
