The cinematic world’s abuzz with expectation over a coming Christopher Nolan big-screen version of Homer’s “Odyssey”, with the legendary king of Ithaca, Odysseus (Ulysses), played by Hollywood “A-lister” Matt Damon.
The first image of Damon as Odysseus was circulated on the production’s new X account on Monday.
Tom Holland, who was previously cited as being in the running as the crafty Odysseus, will reportedly play Telemachus, the mythical Greek king’s son. Anne Hathaway will portray the faithful queen Penelope, while Charlize Theron will reportedly be cast as Circe the Sorceress.
#TheOdysseyMovie is set to debut on July 17, 2026.
According to “Variety”, shooting is expected to begin in some two months on the isle of Favignana, just off northwest of Sicily, which was known in antiquity as Aegusa, meaning “goat island” in Greek. Recent reports had shooting also scheduled for the western coast of Turkey, and in at least one location in Greece.
The isle is linked with a site visited by the hero and his crew in the Homeric epic.
