On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the esteemed American novelist Truman Capote, the Hellenic American Union (HAU) in Athens, in collaboration with Mooviereel, proudly presents today, March 12, the timeless classic ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ (1961), directed by Blake Edwards. The screening will take place at HAU’s theatre located at Massalias 22 str. at 7:15 pm, offering free admission.
Starring the incomparable Audrey Hepburn and based on Capote’s celebrated novella of the same name, ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ garnered acclaim upon its release, earning five Academy Award nominations. Among these nominations were Best Actress for Audrey Hepburn, Adapted Screenplay, Art Direction, Music, and Original Song. Notably, the film secured two Oscars, recognizing Henry Mancini’s unforgettable musical score and the enchanting theme song ‘Moon River.’
The film’s enduring charm lies in its portrayal of the captivating and enigmatic Holly Golightly, a vivacious young woman navigating New York’s café society in pursuit of financial stability through marriage. However, her world is irrevocably changed when she encounters Paul, her charming yet impoverished neighbor and aspiring writer.
In 2012, the film was deemed “culturally, aesthetically, and historically significant” by the Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry of the United States.
