Our Wildest Days is the highly-anticipated feature film from Cannes-awarded Greek director Vassilis Kekatos, which unveiled its trailer this week.
This marks the debut feature of the filmmaker, whose previous work earned global acclaim. Our Wildest Days, a coming-of-age road drama, had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival this past February and is set for release in Greek theaters this June.

Starring Belgian-born Greek actress Daphne Patakia (known for Benedetta, 2021), alongside a talented ensemble of emerging Greek actors, the film follows Chloe, a determined young woman who, after fleeing her dysfunctional family, finds herself homeless. She soon joins a group of young people traveling around Greece in a motorhome, helping those living on the fringes of poverty.

In a narrative reminiscent of Peter Pan’s Lost Boys, Chloe embarks on a journey with her new companions, discovering aspects of Greece and herself she never imagined. Through this experience, she learns the complexities of caring for others and being cared for, the meaning of a chosen family, and the sacrifices necessary to hold on to it. Along the way, she navigates love, disappointment, fear, hunger, danger, and, above all, freedom.
Kekatos, 33, who won the Palme d’Or and the Queer Palm at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival for his short film The Distance Between Us and the Sky, the first Greek to achieve such recognition, began working on his feature drama when he was 28. In an interview with Variety, Kekatos shared his vision for the film: “I wanted to capture exactly what it feels like at this stage of your life. You have ideas—some are romantic, some are cynical—but they’re not solid. You follow the river, you swim, and it may lead you to the sea or leave you stranded on the rocks. You never know. But you have to dive in.”

Kefalonia, the birthplace of Kekatos, is often depicted as a stunning green-blue paradise in the Ionian Sea, with luxurious yachts dotting its beaches. Yet, Kekatos captures a different side of the island—the quieter reality when summer tourism fades. In Our Wildest Days, he portrays the authentic essence of the lives of locals, with deep empathy, affection, and a thorough understanding of their struggles.
