Cannes: Jesse Plemons Wins Best Actor for Greece’s Lanthimos’ ‘Kinds of Kindness’

Adding yet another success to his filmography, it would come as no surprise if both Plemons and "Kinds of Kindness" garnered attention at the upcoming Oscars.

With the Best Actor award, Kinds of Kindness, the latest film by Athens-born director Yorgos Lanthimos, left the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Lanthimos, whose film Poor Things clinched four Oscar awards earlier this year, continues his streak of success.

Jesse Plemons, who plays three characters in the film: a cop called Daniel, an acolyte named Andrew, and a husband known as Robert, won the Best Actor award for his remarkable performance under the guidance of the multi-award-winning Greek director. This marks another accolade in Lanthimos’s unbroken streak of awards since Dogtooth.

No film by the 50-year-old Greek director, who has been excelling internationally for years, has left an international festival empty-handed. All his films since Dogtooth have featured at either the Cannes Film Festival or the Venice Film Festival.

Adding yet another success to his filmography, it would come as no surprise if both Plemons and Kinds of Kindness garnered attention at the upcoming Oscars.

This was Lanthimos’s fourth film to participate in the competitive section of the Cannes Film Festival. Previous entries include Dogtooth, The Lobster, and The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

Kinds of Kindness is set to premiere in Greek cinemas on May 30.
