Starting today, June 12, twelve costumes from the multi-award-winning 2023 film “Poor Things” by Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos will be on display at the Benaki Museum in an exhibition titled “Poor Things: The Costumes.”
Created by Academy Award and BAFTA-winning costume designer Holly Waddington, the exhibition features six costumes for the character Bella Baxter, portrayed by Emma Stone in her Oscar-winning performance. Additionally, it includes costumes for characters Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe), Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), Max McCandles (Ramy Youssef), Harry Astley (Jerrod Carmichael), Madam Swiney (Kathryn Hunter), and Mrs. Prim (Vicki Pepperdine).

The exhibition was inaugurated yesterday, June 11, with the presence of Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou and Holly Waddington herself.
Waddington will also attend today’s public opening, scheduled for 8 PM. In a collaboration between the Benaki Museum and the Hellenic Costume Society, Waddington will engage in a conversation with Sofia Pantouvaki, PhD, Professor of Costume Design at Aalto University and vice-president of the Hellenic Costume Society and Pavlos Thanopoulos, set and costume designer and curator of the exhibition.
Poor Things: The Costumes” will be open to the public until September 29. Visitors can purchase tickets online or at the museum’s kiosk during their visit.
The exhibition was previously shown at London’s Barbican Centre in 2023.
