A total of 190 Greek and international artists will be exhibiting their works during the 11th “Back to Athens” which kicks off on June 26 at the Isaiah Mansion on Patission St.
This year’s edition dubbed “Crossroads – Knowledge and Worldly Pleasures – A Review” will run through to June 30 and features 20 curated exhibitions, installations, performances, and screenings by artists including Olga Economou Constantinides with her audiovisual installation “Discourse”, Nikos Giavropoulos (“Hypnos”), Babis Karalis (“Virgin’ Games”), Chloe Akrithaki, Filippos Tsitsopoulos, Evgenia Efstathiou, (“Dowry), Katerina Botsari, Werner Widmer, and Sebastian Boulter among others.

In addition to installations, the five-day show also features short film screenings, theatrical performances and discussions.
Launched in 2012, the aim of the “Back to Athens” project is two-fold: to feature groundbreaking art and to reopen and revisit important buildings and landmarks in Athens as part of a wider effort to highlight the Greek capital’s cultural and historical heritage.
Each year, the Back to Athens International Art Meeting is held in the heart of the city casting the spotlight through art on critical social issues and encouraging engagement and dialogue between artists and the public.
This year’s theme: “Crossroads – Knowledge and Worldly Pleasures – A Review” examines the unsatisfied nature of humankind which is both a blessing and a curse.
‘Back to Athens 2024’ was curated by Georg Georgakopoulos, Fotini Kapiris, and Christian Rupp. The show opens on Wednesday, June 26 and admission is free. Back to Athens 11 is co-organized by APART (Art Research and Applications) with the support of the City of Athens, the Greek and Austrian culture ministries, the Austrian Embassy Athens, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Akbild, Zoia, the Czech Center Athens within the framework of the “Franz Kafka Memorial Year 2024” and is coordinated by Cheapart.
