Athens and Piraeus Mark World Music Day with Free Happenings

Athens and Piraeus invite all to celebrate World Music Day with free concerts and happenings in squares and parks.

Athens and Piraeus will be celebrating World Music Day on Friday, June 21 with free concerts and live happenings at central squares and parks.

In Athens, municipal bands, orchestras, and choirs will be playing live music starting in the morning on Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Monastiraki Square, at 7 p.m. with plenty of jazz at the National Garden, and with a Greek music concert at 8 p.m. at the National Garden with works by famous Greek composers. A music event will also be held outside the University of Athens on Panepisitmou St at 8 p.m., on Friday. The Maria Callas Museum will be offering free tours from 8 p.m. onward also on Friday to the accompaniment of a piano.

Celebrations in Athens are part of the city’s wider ‘Summer in Athens’ Festival with dozens of cultural events at 53 locations across town.

In Piraeus, concerts will be ongoing at Korai Square from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. featuring the Piraeus Philharmonic Orchestra and student ensembles from the port city’s music schools and conservatories.
